Who done it

My name is Kitton. I have been creating since childhood, always crafting something and working with my hands, braiding bracelets, crocheting, basketry, sewing, jewelry, etc. I am a Fiber Artist living in Portland OR. I initially Studied Fiber arts in Kansas City around the turn of the century. I moved to Oregon in 2014. This website explores some of my work in knitting over the last twenty year.

Hat as Canvas

I have focused on hats as they allow me the freedom to explore ideas and follow my various whims for pattern and color choices on a satisfying timeline. Each hat is 10-20 hours of knitting. I enjoy watching the relationships of color build and enjoy designing to create beautiful patterns at the top of the hats. Additionally, I create a signature band at the base.

Why Wool

My knitting is done almost exclusively with wool which takes dye very well making for exceptionally rich colors. Additionally, wool as a fiber has great durability and insulation properties. Wool is warm, gorgeous, and when treated well, will last for decades. At this time the work is almost exclusively wool sourced in the United States, spun and dyed in New England. However, some yarns that I use have come from around the world and are of myriad fiber content.

Many of the hats featured on this site are available for sale. However, each hat is unique, so once sold, it is no longer available. I do revisit colors or patterns but never make the same hat twice.Hats currently available can be purchased by contacting me.
